” Which is why, for now, they’ll have to make do with you.”
I’ve said it once before and I’ll say it again; Michael Cain as Alfred is ten times the hero than any actor has portrayed Batman.
I can never get over how well written Alfred is in the Nolan-verse, a pure voice of reason and intelligence on how the world works and what is truly good and evil despite how gray it is meant to be.
To top it off, Sir Cain is just phenomenal as always. I really don’t have to sing his praises but his charisma brought such life to the character. Before his performance, I cared nothing for Alfred as nothing more but a two-dimensional moral compass character yet this Alfred in particular is just so inspiring and so much more strong willed and filled with integrity.
It is great to see that and see how Bruce becomes like that by the end of the trilogy, the Batman that we just sort of expect. It’s just brilliant how, without Alfred, Bruce would’ve given up long before the end in this trilogy, for example the very scene the quote is from when Bruce just sits there in the apartment, staring at the cowl.
Don’t even get me started on the letter sub-plot and all of Alfred’s other moments in these films.
